Filipino doctor Teodoro “Ted” Herbosa was instrumental in the country’s health industry. Herbosa swore in as DOH secretary on June 6.

“I am honored to serve this leadership and the Filipino people and their healthcare needs,” tweeted Herbosa.

Herbosa’s selection was based on his expertise in healthcare systems, public health, and emergency medicine, according to Malacañang.

Herbosa earned his biology and medical degrees from the University of the Philippines (UP).

He graduated from UP and helped create it.

“From 2017 to 2021, he assumed the role of Executive Vice President of the UP System, holding various positions such as Chief Division of Trauma at the Department of Surgery at the Philippine General Hospital and Chairman of the Board for Physicians for Peace Philippines,” Malacañang stated.

DOH

Herbosa, a DOH veteran, is unknown.

He was the department’s Undersecretary from 2010 to 2015, contributing to Hospital Accreditation Commission, Philippine Orthopedics Center Modernization, and Public-Private Partnerships in Health.

The DOH said his return is vital to its operations after his appointment.

Herbosa served during the COVID-19 epidemic. He was the Special Adviser to the National Task Force Against COVID-19.

He helped develop Covid-19 mitigation techniques for the archipelago in this post.

On Monday, June 5, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. appointed Herbosa DOH chief. Herbosa, though, pledged to improve healthcare.
