Public Health Investigating Mosquito Rise 2023
Residents in Wellington County have raised concerns about an increase in the number of mosquitoes in the region, but authorities from the public health department have stated that it is too soon to tell.
Even if these insects can spread diseases like West Nile virus and even if there is an increase in the number of them, the government advises that people should not allow this to deter them from spending time outside and should instead take precautions to reduce the risk of being bitten by them.
Although there is a possibility of an increase, some government authorities are pointing to the fact that health units merely haven’t started trapping yet, thus there is no data available for anybody to look at just yet.
Studies conducted on mosquitoes in 2022 revealed. None of the samples taken in Wellington, Dufferin, or Guelph came back positive for West Nile virus.
